Limnobium spongia
The Sponge Plant (Limnobium spongia) can be distinguished from many other wetland plants by its heart-shaped leaves. This perennial herbaceous plant consists of a loose rosette of basal leaves. These leaves either float on water or they are stranded on mud. The mature blades of these leaves are 2.5-7.5 cm long and nearly as much across; they are oval-cordate in shape and smooth along their margins. The bases of the blades are usually cordate (less often rounded), while their tips are blunt and obtuse.
